Karla C. Miller and Rachel S. Upshaw Earn Spots on 2025 Mid-South Super Lawyers List

We’re proud to share that Founding Partner Karla C. Miller and Partner Rachel S. Upshaw have once again been selected to the 2025 Mid-South Super Lawyers® list for their work in family law. Both attorneys are recognized among the Top Rated Family Law Attorneys in the region- an honor that reflects their continued dedication to families and their long-standing reputation for client-focused advocacy and service.

Super Lawyers publishes an annual recognition of “outstanding lawyers who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.” No more than five percent of lawyers in each state are selected, and inclusion on the list is based on Super Lawyers’ selection process, which combines peer nominations, evaluations, and independent research across twelve indicators of professional success.

Karla C. Miller

For the seventh year in a row, founding attorney Karla Miller has earned a place on the Mid-South Super Lawyers® list. For nearly thirty years, Karla has dedicated her practice to helping Tennessee families through some of the most challenging chapters of their lives. Her approach is straightforward and compassionate, and she’s known for combining deep legal knowledge with genuine care for the people she represents.

Outside of the courtroom, Karla has been a strong supporter of military families, having been recognized by both the U.S. Department of Defense and the Military Officers Association of America for her work as a volunteer ombudsman, helping bridge the gap between deployed reserve-component service members and their employers. Governor Phil Bredesen appointed Karla to serve as a Commissioner on the Board of Commissioners of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission, where she served from 2008 to 2014.

Karla has also been recognized by several national legal organizations for her client service and professionalism, including the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys and the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys. In 2024 She was selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and is active in the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Rachel S. Upshaw

This year marks the seventh consecutive time Rachel Upshaw has earned a place on the Mid-South Super Lawyers® list, following her earlier recognition in Rising Stars from 2014 through 2016.

Rachel has spent nearly two decades representing families across Middle Tennessee. Clients know her for her calm, practical approach and her ability to simplify complicated situations during some of life’s most difficult moments. Rachel brings both skill and empathy to every case, every negotiation, and each court appearance.

Her work has earned her national recognition, including being named among the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys’ Top 10 Attorneys Under 40 and one of the 10 Best for Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys.
